As the 2011 Earthquake effectively destroyed most of the Christchurch CBD, in fact 80 % of our CBD buildings were lost, we had a big job in front of us but it did present a canvas for new beginnings and opportunities.

Antony Gough had the vision to create something special.  A new benchmark for The Garden City and its people.  He has achieved just that.  The Terrace is a family of buildings that represent Antony’s philosophy that that everything has a story and nothing is straight up and down. The result is a world class development where culture, commerce, and community thrive. It was not an easy pathway.  The rules kept changing and evolving with the goal posts moving. Bankers demanded more equity in the face of rising costs and a cautious leasing environment. It was not an easy task when one is trying to help rebuild the CBD.  In order to cross the finish line, Antony secured a commitment from his brother Harcourt to help fund the Westpac Building and The Terrace Carpark, which also received an investment from his eldest brother, Tracy.   The resulting effort birthed The Terrace, and we are proud to be part of it.

We are the largest hospitality hub in the South Island.  We are a collaboration of talented restaurateurs and publicans married with upscale office buildings that are home to dynamic businesses from corporate through to live theatre and retail.

Architectural individuality gives our tenants the ability to bring their own unique flair to their offering.  Fringed by the City Mall, close to Te Pae Convention Centre, joined to Cashel St Mall and all that the CBD has to offer, The Terrace is a jewel on the necklace of The Avon River.

In Te Reo, The Avon River was first called Ōtākaro meaning ‘place to play’.  So come play with us!
